Robb knows that the king won't agree to any of his demands, but he capitalizes on one more opportunity to invite his enemy's underestimations.Īfter the meeting, Theon Greyjoy tells Robb that the war won't end until they have the ships to take King's Landing - ships that his father, Balon Grejoy, could provide. Robb leaves Jaime and joins his bannermen, giving his peace terms to Ser Alton Lannister to carry to King's Landing. Jaime responds with his own verbal jabs, but the Stark boy's direwolf inspires a fear that not even Jaime can hide. He makes it clear that he knows Jaime is Joffrey's true father and that the Lannisters killed Ned and tried to kill Bran to protect the secret. But while Cressen convulses and dies, the strange priestess remains untouched.Īt his war camp in the Westerlands, Lord Robb Stark meets with his prisoner, Ser Jaime Lannister. Cressen goes so far as to try and poison Melisandre, drinking from the cup first to earn her trust. But Stannis believes the Iron Throne is his by rights, and he thinks Melisandre will deliver him the power with which to seize it. The house maester, an old man named Cressen, tries to convince Stannis' adviser Davos Seaworth that Melisandre will bring ruin to their lord. ![]() The island's inhabitants gather on the beach as the idols they've worshipped their entire lives - the seven aspects of one god - blaze in the night. Angry, Mormont chastises his young steward, asking, "Do you want to lead? Then learn how to follow." Jon wonders to his friends, "What does he do with his sons?" Commander Jeor Mormont sits down to hold court with Craster, offering him steel and wine in exchange for his roof. The man's home is overrun with women - he's married all his daughters, who in turn have given him more daughters. The men of the Night's Watch march north beyond the Wall, stopping at the keep of a wildling named Craster to enjoy what little shelter is available in the far north. ![]() In early March, 70% of Russia's seaborne oil exports were in an indeterminate state, struggling to find buyers. 13 And global seaborne markets are currently hesitant to absorb Russian cargoes. 12 The United Kingdom and United States have implemented embargoes. 11 Germany has made plans to end Russian oil imports by the end of 2022. The European Union has announced a plan to transition away from Russian oil and gas. A curtailment of Russian oil and (especially) gas to Europe would likely require policy responses and could lead to the rationing of energy across energy-dependent sectors.Ĭountries are already preparing for possible supply disruptions. Commodity prices could be pushed to all-time highs. And if oil (crude and product) supplies from Russia are disrupted, refiners will likely be challenged to secure feedstocks to replace them.Īny supply shocks caused by the invasion in Ukraine will likely affect Europe significantly and, to a lesser extent, the rest of the world. However, demand is expected to grow over the next several years. Pre-invasion oil product demand forecasts of 83 million barrels (mmb)/day may fall to 79 mmb/d or lower this year. If crude oil supplies from Russia are curtailed, the margin impact could be more significant as some refiners are not able to easily replace Russian crude oil. A persistent high oil price environment coupled with inflation may continue to erode fuels demand. This means facilities have been underutilized and refiners have faced increasing margin pressures. Historically, refinery capacity has been outstripping demand. Some refineries-especially in Germany and central and eastern Europe-are dependent on Russian crude oil. The earliest they could be ramped up is estimated to be at the end of 2023. But Europe's liquefaction and terminal capacities are quite limited. LNG imports may be considered as part of a longer-term solution. In the face of a sudden shortfall of gas supply, Europe would be hard pressed to find alternatives. Given that Ukraine's transit pipelines can carry more than a third of Russian exports to Europe, 9 the latter risk is concerning. 8 Additionally, Russian pipelines to the EU may be at risk of supply disruption-either through unilateral decisions to limit gas imports or infrastructure damage. We’ve already seen Russia take actions to halt gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria. Sanctions to limit oil and gas imports have not yet been enacted. With the recent invasion of Ukraine, Europe's dependence on Russian oil and gas presents a potential existential crisis. Together, these factors will ensure that oil prices remain high and markets tight-despite the recent 260,000 boe/day drop in estimated oil demand in 2022, especially from China. As does the steady depletion of existing inventory (a 19% decline for OECD countries between August 2020 and March 2022 4 ). The recent unplanned supply disruption in Libya (resulting in almost 550,000 barrel of oil equivalent (boe)/day being taken out of the supply mix 3 ) adds to the concern. Russia's invasion of Ukraine raises concerns that Russian supplies may be curtailed. ![]() However, several factors have made those assumptions obsolete. That deficit was expected to close by 2Q22 mainly driven by non-OPEC+ producers. By 4Q21, the excess demand peaked at 2 million barrels/day. Since 2021, daily oil demand has exceeded supply by more than one million barrels. Their growing populations and transportation sectors, coupled with lower investment in clean energy, means that there are few alternatives to oil. Heavy industry, residential and commercial buildings and electric power providers are other end users with significant demand for liquid fuels.įrom a geographic perspective, developing economies are expected to be the main drivers of global oil demand moving forward. Per our analysis, these fuels make-up 94% of the sector's energy demand. The transportation sector is particularly dependent on liquid fossil fuels. Yamaha RX-V6A ($850): This Yamaha RX-V6A offers a fresh look at AV receiver design, with its futuristic edges and simple controls, while maximizing sound quality. It's currently on sale, which makes it an excellent value. It's not quite as good as the Yamaha RX-V6A or the Onkyo TX-NR6100 as it has neither the former's home theater chops nor the latter's streaming options. The receiver is laid-back, blends well with forward-sounding speakers and replays music beautifully. Denon AVR-S960H ($599, save $250): The Denon may not be as glittering and shiny as the Yamaha RX-V6A, but it still offers excellent sound quality.Still, as the Onkyo offers balanced performance across both, it's my current favorite.Ĭheck out CNET's receiver buying guide for more about the features and things you should consider when looking for a new system. The Yamaha is great with movies but doesn't sound as good with music streaming. What was surprising is that the onboard phono preamp was even better than the one on the rival Onkyo RZ50, so I can recommend it for people who don't want a separate preamp for their turntable. The Yamaha's sound quality tended toward the cinematic rather than the musical and offered a big, roomy sound perfect for blockbusters or moody conspiracy thrillers. I tested the Yamaha A4A against the Onkyo RZ50 and the Denon X3700. The system is capable of a beefy 110 watts per channel (stereo) and has seven HDMI ports for your connectivity needs. Look through the fancy top grille and you'll see neatly packed components and a distinguished, stamped transformer. As it turns out, this Yamaha offers even better build quality and a huge cinematic sound. I'm a big fan of the Yamaha RX-V6A, so I was curious to see what the step-up RX-A4A brings to the table. The addition of Dirac Live adds its own complexities in setup - please, only use the Onkyo Controller mobile app in combination with the supplied microphone - but doing so rewards with a highly involving performance.īe aware the Onkyo is often out of stock, but as an alternative the Yamaha RX-A4 is even better with movies. Performance was excellent whether listening to streamed music, or watching a movie: I hadn't heard Dolby Atmos sound this convincing in a long time. It also has two-way Bluetooth for streaming as well as listening on wireless headphones. What improvements does the $1,600 TX-RZ50 offer over the $800 TX-NR6100? Firstly, it offers double the number of 8K compatible inputs (six versus three) plus it boasts more power (120 watts versus 100 watts). On that point, being able to request songs directly from Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa is a real boon. Like its budget-oriented label mate, the TX-NR6100, it's stacked with features including the audiophile-level calibration called Dirac Live, as well as the best streaming suite offered in an AV receiver. Onkyo's TX-RZ50 is a perfect step-up model for those looking to upgrade their systems for a set of better-quality speakers or to add a turntable. ![]() Said for Hamilton, who, as everyone these days knows, was a bastard, Success, in other words, was virtually insured. The loss of a quick transition to Google Earth from Basecamp (as clunky as it was) is the driver. The thing that sparks my curiosity is the maps available for planning. All your data is stored on Gaia, not local on your computer. When people refer to the "desktop" version, they are referring to the website. You can export the route/track and drop it into any device you want though. When you create a route on Gaia it syncs with your devices automatically (because you will be logged into both, website and device app). It does not import directly or to a device. When I export a route or track, I save it to Google Drive, which syncs it to my devices for offline use. I don't use a Garmin, and strictly use a rugged phone (not my main cell) or tablet, and I have never had to plug them in to get my tracks or routes from basecamp, Gaia, or any other tool. No need to plug in anything, transfer any files or do any of that. Open the app on your device and you're ready to go. Create route on website, and it syncs automatically to your device. That's where the power lies and why people love it so much. Honestly, if you aren't using the Gaia app on your phone/tablet, it's not the right planning tool for you. It will not use Garmin routing engine to create a route to be used on a Garmin. You are making a ROUTE for Gaia on there, but I think when you export it, it's a track. It can manipulate routes that YOU have created on there, but it's not very easy in my opinion. It cannot manipulate tracks you made (if it can, I have not figured that out). It's not pretty, but it is functional and you can turn off/on folders to see on the map. Has anyone used Gaia as a replacement for Basecamp to manage their data? Does it import or export directly from or into the device? How does it manage my data? Is it like Basecamp? Can it manipulate tracks or routes? What the hell is the thing you make on there (A track or a route?)?Ĭlick to expand. It does not import directly or to a device. I don't want to deal with IT crap when it is time for riding. I have thousands of miles of experience with an iPhone and iPad on my bike being used as navigation equipment and while it does work pretty well there are lots of limitations and I would rather use the Montana. I did not see any of the handy features Basecamp has like being able to snip a track or route or being able to filter them to so many points or reverse them or even any way to make whichever one it is that you make on the map.įor now I have no interest in using a smartphone or tablet to replace my Garmin Montana. I went to the site and fooled around a bit and those maps do look pretty cool and it does seem pretty easy to use to create some sort of line on the map. I have been sharing a ride report and a couple of inmates posted up in there about how cool Gaia is and how it has a bunch of really cool base maps for planning like private property and MVUMs and trail maps. From what I can tell now that will not work anymore. When this happened a few years ago, I rolled back my Basecamp to an older version (and have been fighting BC ever since because it wants to update to the newest version) and did some coding stuff I found online to make it work again. Recently Google broke Google Earth again so I can't use my old version of Basecamp to fire up Google Earth and import a track into it straight from the Basecamp menu. I know that is weird but I don't ride on streets. Typically I put a point on each side of every intersection to help me figure out which way to turn when I get there. I can have up to 250 points in a Direct Route. I also create routes with Basecamp that I follow thru areas where there are not routable roads. I often go to the "My Collection" folder while looking at an area to find tracks I forgot about. I like the collection and folder way that Basecamp allows me to sort out my data. I have used Basecamp for many years to manage my GPS data. Probably a lot of them are pieces of each other and duplicates but it is still a lot of stuff. I have about 30,000 waypoints, 8000 tracks and 600 routes in there right now. I want to know how the desktop version works for managing gps data for my Garmin Montana. I have tried searching but the vast majority of the results I find with the word Gaia in them are about using it on my tablet or phone. Hopefully I am not the 492nd person to start a thread on this topic. It was not initially popular, since its user interface was different from the leading word processor at the time, WordStar.
